Marisa Schultz writes in the Detroit News about a recent effort to combine the punch of Tea Party votes in Michigan for the upcoming effort to elect a conservative to the office of U.S. Senate.  From the beginning of the grassroots Tea Party movement, the leaders and members knew what they wanted in a candidate, any candidate, for office:

(A) candidate who stands for a limited federal government, free-market solutions, individual freedoms and abiding by the Constitution as written by the Founding Fathers.

There is some disagreement about how that will be accomplished. Alliance? Network? Unite? Take over the local GOP?   In the last gubernatorial race, 4 of the Republican candidates each had a base of supporters among Tea Partiers.  Many feel the eventual winner was not a true conservative.  How to maximize the voice and votes of conservatives will be an ongoing discussion among those who have organized themselves into Tea Parties.

Our own Jan D. is quoted further down in the piece:

The idea also doesn’t sit well with Jan DeBeauclair, chairwoman of the Romeo Area Tea Party, saying the members shouldn’t be told how to vote.

“Our mission statement says we will not endorse,” said DeBeauclair, whose group had two representatives at Saturday’s meeting. “We will do everything we can to educate people so they know what is going on, so they have the chance to listen to the candidates and they make up their own mind.”

Well, what do you TEA Partiers think?  What is the best strategy to elect a  true conservative in the primary race? Do straw poll results affect your decision?  Let us know in the comment section below.

Kathleen Gray at the Detroit Free Press reports on the court case concerning former Oakland County Democratic Party chairman Mike McGuinness :

McGuinness, 27, was facing a trial this week on perjury and forgery charges linked to putting unwitting people on the ballot as candidates of the tea party.

McGuinness is scheduled to be sentenced at 1 p.m. on Dec. 7.

McGuinness’ partner-in-mischief, Jason Bauer, “faces a Dec. 8 trial on the same charges” according to Gray.

A secretive group attempting to get  fake “Tea Party” candidates on the ballot for 2010 elections was suspect from the start.  Unknown by any genuinely organized Tea Party groups that were organized and holding meetings,  paid operatives for the Fake Tea Party collected signatures in the summer months of 2010.  Many authentic Tea Party groups published press releases stating their groups opposition to creating an additional political party and would not support any candidates from this Fake Tea Party.

REASONS TO VOTE FOR CONSERVATIVE CANDIDATES

ON NOVEMBER 2ND!

#4) While meeting with a group of constituents prior to the passage of the healthcare reform legislation, one of Senator Levin’s top aides said, “We don’t care about the constitution.  We care about people getting healthcare.”

#5) President Barack Obama has said, “My name may not be on the ballot, buy my agenda is.”  Do you want this current administration’s agenda to continue? The outcome of this election will send a message to ALL politicians.

#6) The balance of the Michigan Supreme Court is at stake and will be determined by the election on Tuesday. There are two different judicial philosophies.  One that believes that judges need to respect the constitution and apply the law as it is written.  Another that believes judges should change the law if they believe it would be better.  We need judges that will follow the constitution and the law.   Justices Robert Young and Mary Beth Kelly believe that the constitution should determine how they rule.

#7)  “We have to pass the bill so that you can find out what is in it,” House Speaker Nancy Pelosi, referring to the 2, 000+ page Healthcare Bill.
